I have always had an affinity for clean lines and design. Growing up sketching the world around me, I was drawn to trees. Capturing the lines exactly in one sitting took a long time, but the process was extremely satisfying. At an early age I experimented with India ink and calligraphy, attracted to the beautiful contrast of black and white, and the expressive organized lines. I was always striving for perfection.
Adobe Illustrator introduced me to the vector line, and bezier curves. No longer did I have to erase, and keep starting over if I felt it wasn’t just right. I could fine tune my lines on the fly. I fell in love with this application, dove in head first, and followed my inspiration.
This lead me to pursue Graphic Design and Web Development for my BFA. Although I continued to study the classics (Sketching, Painting, Ceramics, Fine Printmaking and Metal Smithing) I still found myself gravitating towards the perfectly clean lines that exist in the digital world.
I embraced the digital canvas and the organized structure of code. Now possessing the necessary skills for web development, I was on the track to developing some extremely satisfying digital deliverables.
Although I was proud of this work, it still lacked the vivacity I wanted to incorporate into it. I began learning ActionScript in Adobe Flash. Developing interactive microsites, and Interactive Display Ads in Flash was a new way to connect with users, while also entertaining them with enticing Motion Graphics. I had found a new way to harness my creative skills with animation and interactivity. When I heard whispers of Flash disappearing from the web, I quickly pivoted to HTML5 and JavaScript, specifically utilizing GSAP (GreenSock Animation Platform). My job was fun and it seemed like the day would just pass by, immersed in this new world of animation. I loved collaborating with other creatives, plotting out the marketing strategy and visual beauty of these ads. Motion Graphics in Adobe After Effects soon became my second love, and brought me back into the video realm.
The digital world is my passion, and I feel honored to have had the opportunities to design and develop quality content for the world to consume and enjoy. I intend to continue my creative digital path, and keep learning along the way.
Outside of work, I appreciate spending my time with my wife and two pugs, while losing myself in the beauty of all that Colorado has to offer. I enjoy fly-fishing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking and golfing with my family and friends.
